YG

Before YG was one of the biggest up-and-coming rappers in the music industry, he was Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, born in 1990 in Compton, California. The young artist got his start just like many other stars did since the turn of the millennium: he began posting videos of his music online, thus building a solid fan base. His fans felt as if they were the ones who had discovered him and for this reason they have remained faithful to him and his music ever since.

However, along with fans, YG also began to attract the wrong kind of crowd. In fact, just as it happens for many artists in the Hip-Hop world, the young rapper was not able to shake off some of his enemies from the streets of L.A. In multiple occasions, YG found himself in dangerous situations, culminating into two separate fights.

The first one, which erupted in 2012 on the set of his music video for his single I’m a Thug, turned ugly when shots were fired almost hitting the rapper. Police were called and the video shoot was cancelled. The other one, which occurred more recently in 2015 in a recording studio in the wee hours of the morning, saw the rapper being shot in the hip. Fortunately, the rapper was able to quickly recover, but according to official police reports, he was not willing to cooperate with the authorities to find the people who had tried to kill him.

Given his incredible talent, success came quickly for YG. In fact, he soon attracted the attention of some of the big names in the rap world, including Jeezy and Drake. Jeezy even offered him to produce his very first full-length studio album. However, YG changed his mind on the collaboration and ended up releasing an album titled My Krazy Life (2014), produced by DJ Mustard. The album, which was a commercial and critically acclaimed success, featured many guest appearances, including Drake, Rick Homie Quan, and ScHoolboy Q. My Krazy Life debuted at number two in the album chart.

After marking his entire upper body with tattoos, YG went on to make his mark in the rap industry by collaborating with some of the best artists in the game. His talent has been recognized by the industry itself. In fact, he has been nominated for six BET Hip-Hop Awards and won twice for his song My Hitta, which won Best Collaboration by Duo or Group and even Song of the Year.

YG has also been successful in the movie industry. He starred in We the Party (2012), and in Mac & Devin Go to High School (2012). More recently, he performed in Blame it on the Street (2014), where he was not only the main actor, but also a producer as well as a writer for the script.

YG is currently under contract with Def Jam and busy in the studio making more music that is scheduled to be released soon. According to him, becoming a father to a baby girl has given him plenty of inspiration.
